Alice Mara Bowls

Says Alice: Made from fine porcelain these bowls are a beautiful jade colour... they are decorated with photos of people. These are my family and friends who I agreed to suspend themselves from a door frame, while I took their picture. I then turned each photo into a transfer and placed onto the bowl, firing to high temperature so that it melts into the glaze and becomes very durable. The image will never scratch off or erode.
The idea was inspired by the ancient Greek urns adorned with freizes of muscle around the rims... I wanted to do a contemporary slant on this idea. I wanted the people to look like a pattern on the bowl at first glance and then on further inspection the viewer realises that it is a person hanging on for dear life! The colour and patterns of the clothes create an eye catching pattern. Diameter - 9cm
